Months ago I won a contest on Instagram from Joanna Vargas Skincare and Busy Wife Social Life and I received this daily skin serum. I was super stoked because I always wondered if people really win those contests and more importantly Joanna Vargas is a celebrity esthetician that has worked on Julianne Moores skin. This serum retails for $85.00 dollars so I thought I would write an honest review to let you know my opinion. Here is my Joanna Vargas Daily Serum review.
**This is not a sponsored post, I won this product on Instagram. No one asked me to share my thoughts. **
This serum is $85.00 which is expensive. Just to be clear, I spend a lot of money on skin care products. So, for me spending $85 dollars on a great product would be worth it. But, I really have to love it. The serum came packaged beautifully! Included in the box was a handwritten card from Joanna Vargas’s New York Spa congratulating me on my win and reminding me the next time I’m in New York to stop by for a facial. Another card was in the box which had a watercolor painting on heavy cardstock of three pretty ladies with some more product info. The presentation was beautiful and I felt special.
I really wanted to see the effect this serum had on my skin so, I stopped using all of my other serums and moisturizers. The only thing I used in addition to this was Tartguard 30 SPF.
You use this serum am and pm and a little bit goes a long way. I tend to be an over pumper and I can say one pump of this is sufficient.
It’s green. This is one thing I wasn’t expecting. But, after looking at the ingredients I noticed that it contains Chlorophyllin copper as the fourth ingredient which is probably the reason for the green hue. This serum also smells…..like….Cotton Candy? I can’t quite figure out what exactly it is but it smells yummy. I’m not usually one who likes fragrance in my skin products so, I wasn’t crazy about that but, it does smell really, really good if you’re someone who doesn’t mind.
Back to the green hue, so, after doing some research on Chlorophyllin Copper, what I found is that it is added to cosmetics as a colorant and deodorant agent. There are also sites that I stumbled on that said Chlorophyllin Copper was an effective antioxidant at treating photodamaged skin.
Joanna Vargas’s website doesn’t say too much about what the serums intention is “A clarifying serum that restores skin balance and resilience.” The description is pretty succinct so I am glad to see that the serum contains some good ingredients like Galactorabian (lightens, brightens, and has anti-inflammatory properties).
This serum is light and absorbs quickly leaving your skin feeling soft and hydrated which I loved immediately. Hyaluronic Acid is the second ingredient on the list which made me really happy because I have a lot of fine little lines around my eyes and using a product that will help plump and fill those in is important.
This serum contains Vitamins A, C, E which are wonderful antioxidants and Vitamin F (linoleic acid )which is an omega acid. These ingredients promote the appearance of smooth radiant skin by hydrating, plumping, brightening and diminishing the appearance of hyperpigmentation.
After using this product twice a day for a few days I could swear my skin appeared brighter and my tone appeared to even out. I’m kind of a sucker for luxurious products so, I am not sure If my skin truly looked better or the fact that this serum is from a celebrity Esthetician that made me feel like I looked better. Regardless, I really liked the way this serum felt on my skin. Very lightweight with no sticky residue.
This serum lasted 42 days. Twice a day usage, sometimes with one pump sometimes more. It lasts long. I reallllly realllly reallly wanted to LOVE this serum. But, I just really liked it.
After 42 days, I didn’t see any real remarkable changes that would make me ditch my skin care products and use this and venture out and use other Joanna Vargas products. This serum felt great on my skin, wasn’t irritating or sticky. But, I just wanted more. I have hyperpigmentation on my skin and I really didn’t see a decrease in my little brown spots. While I have used other serums and seen results after 3 weeks of use, typically, I say around 6-8 weeks is the amount of time you should wait before seeing real results with a serum used daily.
Should you buy it?
I think this serum would be perfect for someone who is looking for a lightweight daily serum with natural ingredients. This daily serum would be great to use in place of a moisturizer and then use a serum with a little more oomph.
Serums are an essential part of my routine and because skincare is an investment (Hey! The skin is the largest organ in the body) I prefer one that packs a punch. For $85 I think there are stronger choices.
Some of my serum picks for every budget to check out!
What are your thoughts? Have you used this serum before?
